The MultiModemLan network modem provides a turn-key solution for small-scale modem sharing and remote-control access to your Ethernet NetWare LAN.
The MultiModemLAN provides a high-speed (V.32bis/V.42bis) modem with Group 3, Class 2 fax capability, an integrated computer with 2 megabytes of RAM, modem-sharing software, a dial-in, dial-out and remote-control datacomm package and Ethernet network hardware. With all of this hardware rolled into a package the size of a traditional desktop modem, the MultiModemLAN is the complete, compact solution for asynchronous communications.
This MultiModemLAN (Model MT1432ECT) has a 386SX processor, memory capacity of up to 8 Megs and provides coaxial (10BASE2) and twisted-pair (10BASET) connectivity to your ThinNet or UTP LAN.
The MultiModemLAN's internal data/fax modem complies with the CCITT V.32bis/V.32 (14.4K & 9600 bps) standards for data modems as well as V.22bis, V.22 and Bell 212A and Bell 103 (for 2400, 1200 and 300 bps, respectively). It also provides V.42 error correction and V.42bis data compression, plus it supports the Group 3 (9600/4800 bps) standard for fax modems.
As a dial-in, remote-control server, the MultiModemLAN's internal PC acts as a dedicated node on a Novell network for remote access to LAN resources. Or, you can cannect two remote Ethernet LANs using the MultiModemLAN as an async router.
The MultiModemLAN is bundled with MultiExpress datacomm software for dial-in/dial-out asynchronous communications. MultiExpress has all the popular file transfer protocols and terminal emulations, in addition to "host" and "remote" modules for remote-control sessions. The host program is automatically loaded into the MultiModemLAN at power up, so configuration is minimal once installation is complete.
The MultiModemLAN also comes with MultiExpress Fax Server software, for send and receive PC-based fax transmissions from a LAN PC. By selecting a network drive as the receive queue, fax messages can be routed from any LAN PC to the intended destination.
The MultiModemLAN is also equipped with an RS-232 serial port, so a second modem can be attached for simultaneous dial-in and dial-out datacomm operations with any properly equipped LAN PC.
The MultiModemLAN's control software runs on the internal processor after it has been configured and downloaded from another LAN PC. This makes the internal modem, along with an optional auxiliary modem, available to LAN PCs (like a small-scale modem pool). A workstation portion of the software runs on LAN PCs to "find" the shared modem(s) over the network.
